Google: exclusive interview with PROPERTYdrum!
In an exclusive interview with PROPERTYdrum, Ben Wood, Head of Property at Google UK, explained the internet giant’s future plans in the property arena.
Google has booked exhibition space and will speak at the seminar sessions at the Property Professionals Show in May. This has already caused speculation on their reasons for the high profile. Will they announce the launch of a Google property portal? If so, will it be for agents – or will it be for individuals to sell and let their homes directly through Google? How would that affect the portals like Rightmove and Primelocation?
Ben said that they don’t yet have any concrete plans to launch a Google property portal or property mapping facility in the UK. “The press coverage in December on Google’s plans for property, stating that we had briefed estate agents on our plans was pure speculation. I have never spoken to most of the people quoted.”
In any case, Google, says Ben, will not be making any attempt to wipe out estate agents or the property portals that they use. “I think that the vast majority of people in the UK will never want to sell their home directly, without using an estate agent. It’s too difficult, too time consuming”.
